The performance of the historical musical is set for 4 p.m. April 2 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Fairfield, according to organizers, who said the show has been scheduled to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.
Luther is most famous for leading the Reformation, which began in 1517 when he posted his “Ninety-five Theses,” a reformation challenge to the Roman Catholic Church.
Written by Carmino Ravosa in 1983 to celebrate the 500th anniversary of his birth, “Martin Luther, Rebel Priest” tells that story, according to the church, which said that Ravosa was a devout Lutheran who attended services in Pleasantville, New York.
The cast of the April 2 performance includes professional actors and singers Richard Weidlich, who is playing Luther, and David Victor, who is narrating the story. A number of amateur performers from the OSLC Players will round out the cast, the church said in a statement.
The April 2 performance is free and open to the public, according to the church, which said that a reception featuring “German-style refreshments,” will follow. A free-will offering will also be collected, with proceeds to benefit Operation Hope, the church said.
Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church is located at 160 Hill Farm Road, Fairfield. For more information, visit the church online or call 203-255-0545.
